  • United Pulp and Paper Co., Inc. (UPPC) in SCG Paper, the leading manufacturer of high-quality and cost efficient industrial-grade paper in the country, recently received the Silver Rating Award under the Regional Industrial EcoWatch Program of the DENR and Environmental Management Bureau (EMB), Region III.

The recognition was given shortly after DENR recognized UPPC in SCG Paper for the quality of its air emissions and water effluent. The DENR-EMB citation was given during DENR-EMB’s recognition night that capped their celebration of Environment Month last June 18.

This is the 5th year that DENR-EMB has paid tribute to its environmental partners in the EcoWatch Program which promotes mandatory self-monitoring and environmental compliance among industries, and encourages pollution reduction.

Currently, the EcoWatch program makes use of color codes to rate the environmental performance of industries. Industries are rated Gold or Silver for environmental efforts that go beyond DENR environmental regulations, Green or Blue for sufficient efforts, Red for insufficient efforts, and Black for companies that make no effort to improve their compliance.

DENR has identified priority sectors to participate in the Industrial EcoWatch Program to include: sugar central and refinery plants; beverage plants; pulp and paper plants; cement plants; meat and fish processing plants; beer, softdrinks, soy sauce and condiments manufacturing plants; mall/commercial establishments; and chicken dressing plants.

In recognition of its active campaign for green operations within the paper packaging industry, UPPC in SCG Paper has been recognized by two more independent bodies in the last 12 months.
